Lipoedema

Lipoedema isn’t “stubborn fat.” It’s a connective-tissue condition that can cause pain, heaviness, swelling, easy bruising and changes in skin and tissue quality.

Many people go years without answers. We’re here to change that, with evidence-informed care and a compassionate, whole-person approach.

How we assess

We start with a comprehensive baseline so you can track real progress over time:

  1. Limb size, volume and tissue quality (including stiffness)
  2. Hip-to-waist ratio and simple clinical checks like the pinch test
  3. Fluid status using biopimedence device, when indicated
  4. Screening for related factors and other conditions.
  5. Clear progression monitoring (we look for meaningful changes, not day-to-day noise)

How we treat

Your plan blends science, movement and lifestyle care, tailored to your goals:

Targeted exercise therapy: strength, conditioning and low-impact work to support lymphatic flow, reduce inflammation and protect joints.

Manual therapy & compression: strategies to ease heaviness and tenderness, plus guidance on garment selection and self-care.

Pain science & stress support: lipoedema pain often has a nociplastic (nervous-system sensitisation) component; we use movement, education and nervous-system strategies to help calm it.

Refer on for Nutritional guidance and support where required. Food can influence inflammation, hormones, energy and mood. We emphasise adequate protein, key micronutrients (e.g., magnesium, zinc, iron, B-vitamins) and carbohydrate patterns that stabilise energy, all tailored to your preferences.

Mental health matters: low mood and fatigue are common, your plan includes practical supports and, where helpful, collaboration with your GP or psychologist.

Surgical pathway support

While liposuction is not for everyone, if it is part of your plan we are able to help you through the journey.

Prehab: skin care, compression education, lymphatic self-care, and “strong-legs” prep for better recovery.

Early post-op (weeks 1–6): focus on fluid management (often lighter compression to start; avoid over-compression).

Remodelling phase (up to 12 months): fibrosis management, garment progression (e.g., Class 2–3 as appropriate), and coached self-care (pump use, self-MLD, dry brushing). We’ll liaise with your surgeon and help you plan staged procedures if needed.

What to expect..

With the right care, many people experience less pain and heaviness, improved mobility and confidence, and better day-to-day self-management. While lipoedema can progress for some, long-term data suggest many don’t, especially when weight, strength and symptom drivers are well managed. Our focus is protecting function and helping you feel lighter, freer and more in control.
