Clinical Pilates

What is Clinical Pilates?

Clinical Pilates is a method of specific exercise which has evolved from traditional Pilates. It has the addition of Physiotherapy input and evidence based research as a rehabilitation tool for injury management and performance enhancement. Clinical Pilates focuses on training the body’s deep stabilising muscles – the ‘core’.

Why is Clinical Pilates by a Physio so special?

A Clinical Pilates program run by a Physiotherapist, has a strong emphasis on diagnosis and treatment of pain and injury, optimal postural alignment and biomechanics.

Physiotherapists love to prescribe and offer Clinical Pilates in their clinics, as it’s an amazing exercise method for physical rehabilitation. This type of Pilates exercise also takes into account that pathologies can be sensitive to load and direction.

The purpose of training our deep stabilising muscles is to provide stability, strength and control to:

  • the lower back,
  • pelvic and hip joints,
  • upper back,
  • neck and
  • shoulder regions.

Training these muscles help to unload the larger overworked muscles of these regions, that can often be the cause of muscle tension and pain.

Clinical Pilates can help with the following conditions:
  • Lower back pain
  • Sciatica
  • Hip & groin pain
  • Neck pain
  • Shoulder pain
  • Arthritis
  • Posture correction
  • Flexibility
  • Core & general strength
  • Balance & stability
  • Injury recovery
  • Post surgical rehabilitation

All Clinical Pilates classes are performed in PhysioHealth’s brand new Pilates Studio. This includes a Trapeze table, 2 Reformers, Wunda chair, Balls, Bands, Bosu’s, Rollers, and the Floor! All this fancy equipment is used to work your body during the classes.

‘In 10 sessions you will feel the difference, in 20 sessions you will notice the difference, and in 30 Pilates sessions you will be on your way to having a whole new body’Joseph Pilates.
